stainless steel house numbers

Stainless steel house numbers can increase the visual aesthetics of your home façade.  This combination works great as a way to contrast materials on a contemporary home.  Modern homes usually have a mix of materials such as stone, metal, and wood.  Stainless steel is a great combination with homes with large front windows.  This is a wonderful look for beach front property, contemporary log cabins and other unique modern residential and commercial building structures.  You may have seen these style numbers used on prefab homes from Dwell Magazine.

House Number Changing

You can install your own numbers, with simple hand tools and a laser level. Keep in mind that you may have some old holes once you remove your existing home numbers. Depending on the size and location of the existing holes, you may be able to reuse some or all of them. If you cannot reuse your existing holes, you can seal them with silicone or caulk material.

Stainless steel house numbers can be easily polished and hand buffed so that they maintain their initial luster. They stand up very well in all climates and do not have any major issues with expansion and contraction. You can purchase house numbers from Home Depot and Lowes, however if you are looking for something different and unique, your best bet is to search house number plaques online for something which cannot be purchased from your local hardware store. If you need your numbers right away, your best bet is to purchase cheap house numbers from your Home Depot store near your home.

Before you install new house numbers, you should check with your town and (HOA) if applicable.  There may be certain existing rules and regulations which will dictate the amount of flexibility you will have for changing your house numbers.

If you do not like stainless steel, but you are still looking for something contemporary, you can also consider brass, nickel, bronze, and aluminum house numbers.  Another option, if you are looking for something which has a vintage theme is to use metal, but choose a wrought iron design instead for your house number signs.  Keep in mind however, that such materials such as bronze will look different over time because of oxidation and uv light causing the numbers on your house to fade.

Increasing the size of your house numbers can also increase safety for those who are trying to find your house during the night time.  Another great option is to increase the amount of landscaping lights, to increase your overall home visibility during night time.  This can also have an additional benefit by reducing potential crime as well.

If you are planning on selling your home, this is also a great way to increase the curb appeal of your property without spending a large amount.  This project offers a great ROI, as the number sign will be the first thing potential homebuyers will see when they come to your home.
