What is an AFC or PUA?

AFC and PUA are both terms from the seduction community.  According to the urban dictionary, AFC (Average Frustrated Chump) is a guy who lacks skills, and confidence when it comes to women.   He will often end up in the "friend zone" because he obeys girls like a slave.  On the other end of the scale a PUA is a pick up artist. 

The seduction community refers to a group started by a man who uses the nickname “Mystery”.  Mystery was an average person who was frustrated with not being able to get women.  He developed a persona over time, which has lead to his infamous boot camps (which teach AFCs to become PUAs).

Mystery was eventually featured on a VH-1 reality series called “The Pick Up Artist”.  This show was an elimination style contest, where students were lead through an weekly elimination round contest until the best PUA emerged. 

Lessons taught included how to dress properly, how to approach women, and further more “close the deal”. 

The resulting success of Mystery Method resulted in many competitors such as RSD (Real Social Dynamics), Asian Playboy, and others.  Most famous was author Neil Strauss, who wrote “The Game”.  This book chronicled Strauss’s journey through the underground world of the seduction community.  Ironically, in the end he learned that the best way to be successful was to just be yourself. 

AFCs and PUAs often congregate in communities such as seduction.com which offers forums where these individuals can interact with each other.  Often, this is a place where users tell their war stories to each other in exchange for feedback and criticism. 

In certain cities PUA’s and AFC’s formed lairs, which were formal meeting groups.  These groups would meet to discuss topics to better improve their success ratio with women.  Often, these groups would also go out later and practice on live targets.  Subjects of these outings included approaching women, testing new opening lines, along with any other material. 

AFC’s sometimes are simply men who were too nice to women.  As a result of emotional trauma, the reaction was to swing to the other end of the spectrum being PUA’s.   This action can be considered a knee jerk reaction to overcompensate for any past trauma.

This is of the well known PUA’s, and has also been involved in the coaching community.  In the quest for turning AFC’s to PUA’s, many new people have taken spotlight.  Part of this is attributed to “The Game” and the success of the “Mystery Method”.  Other notable coaches include the Asian Playboy, who offers coaching for minorities attempting to meet Caucasian women.
