Used truck tires

Used truck tires are a great way to maintain your vehicle without having to purchase new parts.  Used tires are significantly cheaper than brand new tires.  Depending on the amount of remaining tread, they may last quite a long time.  It is a myth that used tires are unsafe.  As long as you inspect the used tires, they are just as safe provided that they were not abused by the previous owner.

Often times, you can also find barely used truck tires.  The reason for this is because often times people may buy vehicles, and upgrade the wheels with custom rims.  This is a great source for picking up tires with under 1000 total miles.  You can find these by searching online, or contacting your local car dealers to see if they have any used take off tires.  If you are looking for an uncommon size your best bet may be to search online.  Most places are willing to ship your tires via UPS ground, and it is a fairly inexpensive shipping option.

Before you purchase your used tire set, it is extremely important to examine the treads.  You need to look for things such as tread depth remaining, sidewall condition, along with whether the tires have worn evenly.  Avoid buying used tires if they have been worn unevenly or if there is damage on the sidewall of the truck tire.

If you want to buy used tires, make sure you purchase the same tire set (i.e. avoid mixing new and used tires of different brands and makes).  Some of the more popular tires include Firestone, Goodyear, Towmax, Powerking, and Michelin.  Korean tires may cost less as well, from companies such as Kumho.

If you are going to buy used tires, you may want to consider filing them with nitrogen.  Nitrogen does not leak out as fast compared to regular compressed air.  Nitrogen also eliminates moisture, which reduces the risk of having your alloy wheels rust from the inside out.

Purchasing re-treaded tires is another option, however this is riskier than buying used tires. You do not know if the tires were made in an adequate factory. Blowouts from retreaded tires can be very dangerous. You may have even seen tire treads on the highway from re-treaded truck tires which have come off. Should you decide to use re-trades, make sure you have adequate AAA coverage in case you need a tow truck.  Not only is it dangerous for the driver, it is dangerous for those who are following behind your vehicle as well. Use extreme caution, before you decide on buying re-treaded (vs. used tires).
