Toyota Forklift Repair

Make sure that you have your model number handy for your Toyota Forklift truck available if you need to have your unit serviced or repaired.  You will need to have be Toyota forklift model number so that you have the ability to cross reference the part proper parts number as well.  Keep in mind that depending on the complexity of the job  you may want to have this done by your Authorized Toyota Forklift dealer instead of performing the repair in-house.  If you have a larger fleet, you may want to send your lead mechanic to an authorized Toyota forklift training school so they can become familiar with how to work on your specific machines and models. Your forklift mechanic should be familiar enough to make decisions such as whether or not to use OEM, aftermarket, new, or used parts to repair your Toyota lift truck.

It isn’t always easy to find the part number especially for older Toyota lift trucks. A good way to speed up your search is to understand who actually made the part. In many cases keep in mind that Toyota Material Handling USA will actually have the part made by another company. What this means for you is that often there will be two different part numbers (i.e the Toyota vs. OEM part number). Knowing this information ahead of time can help you find the part faster and at a less cost as well occasionally. If you don’t know the model number you can check directly on the chassis if you lost the original Toyota forklift manual or Toyota lift parts manual. Some of the more common Toyota forklift model numbers may look similar to:HBA20, HBWA20, HBWA30, 6HBE40, 7HBC30, 7HBC40,2FBCA20, 2FBCA25, 5FBC18, 7FBH15, 7FBH18, etc.

If you own an electric forklift model, you will generally have less repairs because you do not have in internal combustion (i.e. Diesel motor) drive train system.  You can purchase parts for walkies, forklifts and tow motors online or from your local forklift dealer.  There are many different options for new, used, OEM, and aftermarket parts available.  Certain parts are definitely better manufactured in the OEM version and you should choose accordingly based on what your budget allows.

The amount of potential repairs which you need usually depend on factors such as how hard you use the machine, how well you perform basic preventative maintenance tasks along with your machine’s overall age and condition. During PM checks on your Toyota forklift you should be consistently checking and changing fluids as needed on your transmission, hydraulic oil, motor, radiator, and if applicable the water or electrolyte needs to be added to your forklift batteries on an as needed basis as well. Electric pallet jack trucks will last a long time as long they are properly maintained.

You also should check if you need to repair or replace your Toyota forklift wheels looking for issues such as missing rubber, cuts on the pneumatic tires, or broken bonds on cushion tires which may cause your forklift wheels to slip dangerously.  If your machine is older you may also need to replace lugs or wheel bearings as well.  Also check to see if you need to repair or replace safety devices which may include strobes, horns, lights, sirens, seat harnesses, belts, along with the forklift cabin overhead guard unit.  Make sure that you are checking to see if you need to repair the seat brake, steering wheel, gauges, or worn out hydraulic lift controls on your Toyota.

You should pay very close attention to the forklift mast, and lift chains & rollers to make sure they don’t need to be repaired.  Check for signs of lubrication issues, squeaks, and other issues on the rollers.  With the mast, you should be looking for bends, cracks, broken welds, etc.  Over time, you may also develop leaks in the hydraulic system which you may need to have repaired.  This could be either leaks in the hydraulic steering assembly or the mechanism for the actual forklift tines.  You can buy lift cylinders and hydraulic seal kits online in both new and refurbished forms.  Check your system on a regular basis to make sure that you do not have leaks on the fork attachments or during the lift or tilt process on your lift truck.

As your forklift begins to age, you may also need to replace forklift tines as well.  Depending on the type of Toyota lift truck you own, you may also need to inspect gripper jaws, work platforms along with the safety interlock systems.

If you have an IC Diesel forklift, you may need an eventual motor overhaul as well.  Overhauling your motor is a good idea to keep your electric pallet truck running as long as possible.  Keep in mind that your usage and environmental conditions will also determine factors such as how often you may need to replace the exhaust, fuel tanks/lines, brakes, and other parts on your Toyota forklift.
