Crown forklift repair

Repairing your Crown forklift can be a fairly straightforward process as long as you have some basic information so that you can start your troubleshooting.  You will need your Crown electric pallet jack/forklift model number handy.  You can find this information out simply by looking on the chassi for the forklift model info.  If you are not near your forklift truck you can also refer to your Crown forklift manual or you can also try to search online for a Crown forklift parts guide which you can use you cross reference information.   Depending on the scope of the repair/maintenance involved you may want to consider doing this in-house versus having the local authorized Crown forklift dealer come out to do the work.

Typically companies with larger material handling equipment fleets may have their own in-house mechanic perform  all the repair and PM work associated with the forklift trucks.   Your forklift mechanic should be familiar not only with general forklift repair, but they should also know how to work specially on Crown electric pallet jacks and forklift trucks.  Should you decided to perform repairs on an in house basis you can purchase either OEM, aftermarket, new, used or refurbished Crown lift truck parts online.

If you can’t find the part number you can also try to see if you can find out if Crown originally made the part or if the subassembly was made by a third party.  Keep in mind that in many circumstances Crown will source subassemblies from other major suppliers.  What this means is that often times there will be a Crown fork truck part number, which is different than the OEM part number.  If you know this, you will have a much easier time when it comes to sourcing your forklift repair parts.  Some of the more well known Crown electric forklift truck models include the: GPW, 15WB, 20W, 20WR, 30W, WP2040, WP2045, WP2340, FP60, FB40, FB50, FP55, and TSP6000.

Crown electric pallet jack trucks generally have less maintenance issues in comparison to the IC diesel forklifts.  The reason for this is because they have less moving parts and don’t require services such as having the diesel forklift engine overhauled.  If you search online, you can find exactly the part you will need for your tow motor, forklift, electric pallet jack truck, etc.  In certain cases you may opt to purchase OEM Crown parts instead of purchasing aftermarket or refurbished parts for your forklift trucks.

Factors which come in to consideration when it comes to parts repair and replacement usually include factors such as whether the proper preventative maintenance was done, and whether or not the machine may have been abused by the forklift truck operators.  When you perform your maintenance checks that is usually the best time to catch failing parts before they become part of a larger issue on your lift truck.  For example when you are performing PM work is the time where you should be checking vigilantly on things such as fluid maintenance.  In order to have a smoothly running Crown pallet truck you should always check your hydraulic fluid, transmission fluid, motor oil (if Diesel/IC), radiator coolant levels, steering pump fluid level, etc.   If you own an electric powered jack you will also need to check on the level of water in the forklift battery, in case you need to add more water to the electric forklift battery cell.

You will need to have your Crown forklift wheels replaced if you notice there are large pieces of rubber missing, or if you notice any large cuts in the pneumatic tires as well.  If you use cushion wheels, make sure that they are still firmly bonded so that they do not create a dangerous situation because of slippage.  In certain cases you may also have to replace broken or missing lug nuts as well.  As the age of your truck increases the chance will also be greater that you may need new wheel bearings as well.

Other areas you should check for potential repair issues on your Crown truck also include safety items such as your seat belts, strobes, horns, warning lights, etc.  You also need to check and make sure your basic lift controls are working as well.

One of the parts of your Crown forklift which will receive the most wear and tear will be all the parts attached to your forklift mast.  You should always check the mast to see if it might be accidentally bent, or if there are bends or cracks as well.  As the age of your machine increases you may also be more likely to see the need to repair hydraulic units, hydraulic steering assemblies, etc.  You can normally spot these issues when you check the lift and tilt of your Crown electric or diesel forklift trucks.  If you have and order picker truck be sure that you check the gripper jaws, safety interlock, etc.

The problems above are the most general areas you should check with regards to Crown forklift repair.  Other areas you will need to concentrate on are only applicable if you have a diesel forklift truck.  Diesel trucks require different maintenance because of the internal combustion engines.  Diesel engine trucks may also require eventual replacement of forklift exhaust systems and fuel tanks as well.  If you have additional questions you can always contact Crown or our dealer directly.
