Choosing a pet safety gate & petproofing your home

Installing a safety gate can keep your pet safe and out of dangerous areas. Pet gates generally work very well for dogs; however your cats will most likely climb and or jump over these gates.

Caring for pets is similar to caring for young children. Your pet does not always know what is harmful to them. Installing a pet gate can keep your pet out of dangerous areas of your home such as your basement or garage. By securing your pet, you can keep them out of dangerous things such as antifreeze, swimming pools, and other life threatening dangers.

When you are searching for pet safety gates, make sure you find one which is going to be tall enough.  The height will depend on the size of your animal.  When installing safety gates, be sure to thoroughly check the opening of the doorway/hallway. 

Most gates are adjustable; however you may want to examine how it works in detail.  Be sure the gate is strong enough to hold, while not damaging your home décor.  Consider the size of your pet gate when folded, so you can also plan for storage accordingly when you are not using the gate.
